Booking terms and conditions
The White House is owned and managed by Jilly Gourlay and all bookings are subject to the following terms and conditions:
When a reservation is made more than eight weeks before the start of the rental a deposit equal to 50% of the rental fee is payable at the time of booking and the remaining balance is due no later than eight weeks before the commencement of the rental. Non-payment of the balance by the due date shall be interpreted as a cancellation of the booking by the Client.
When a reservation is made less than eight weeks before the commencement of the rental the full rental fee is payable at the time of booking.
A security deposit of £300 is payable in addition to the rental fee. In making a booking, the Client accepts responsibility for any theft, breakage, or damage caused by any member of their party and agrees to indemnify the The White House in full for any loss incurred as a result.
When a reservation is made more than eight weeks before the start of the rental the security deposit is payable no later than eight weeks before the commencement of the rental. When a reservation is made less than eight weeks before the commencement of the rental the security deposit is payable at the time of booking.
The security deposit will be returned to the Client within 21 days of the end of their rental less the cost of any damages, breakages etc.
If on arrival at the property the Client discovers that something is missing or damaged then this must be reported to The White House immediately, either via telephone or email, otherwise it will be presumed that the loss/damage was caused by the Client and a charge will be made. The Client will also notify The White House of any damage or breakages no later than the end of the rental period so that arrangements can be made by The White House for replacements and repairs, as applicable.
Period of hire
Unless agreed otherwise, rentals commence at 4:00 pm on the day of arrival and terminate at 10:00 am on the day of departure. Arrival and departure times must be strictly adhered to and can only be varied by express agreement in advance.
The White House reserves the right to make an additional charge for early arrivals and late departures to reflect the additional housekeeping costs that may be incurred.
Use of the property
The number of persons occupying the property must not exceed the maximum number stipulated in the advertised details. Any over-occupancy is considered a serious infringement of the booking terms and conditions and The White House reserves the right to terminate the booking without notice and without refund in the case of a breach of this condition.
The property will be used for personal and domestic purposes only. The property shall not be used for any commercial purposes without the express written consent of The White House in advance, for which an additional charge may be made.
Care of the property
The White House is a privately-owned home and the Client must take all reasonable and proper care of the property and its furniture, pictures, fixtures, fittings, and other effects in or on the property. No pets, red wine, or shoes are allowed upstairs in the property and no products other than toilet paper are to be flushed down the toilets – sanitary products, nappies, wipes, cotton buds etc should all be placed in the waste bin. The Client is also reminded to lock the doors and close the windows when they leave the property unoccupied.
The Client must leave the property and its furniture, pictures, fixtures, fittings, and other effects in the same state of repair and condition, and in the same clean and tidy condition, at the end of the rental period as they were found at the beginning of the rental period.
Smoking in the property is strictly prohibited. The White House reserves the right to terminate the booking without notice and without refund in the case of a breach of this condition.
Smoking is, however, permitted outside the property and buckets are provided in the courtyard for the safe disposal of cigarettes.
Other residential properties are in close proximity to The White House and a zero-tolerance policy on late-night noise applies. All music must be inaudible outside The White House after 10.00 pm and outside music is prohibited. Any violation of the rules relating to noise is considered a serious infringement of the booking terms and conditions and The White House reserves the right to terminate the booking without notice and without refund in the case of a breach of this condition.
The White House accepts a maximum of two dogs, to be booked in advance. Dogs must be well-behaved and house-trained; are not allowed on the furniture or upstairs in the property; and guests must clean up after their pets. The White House pet charge is £40 and this fee is to cover the additional cleaning costs.
Right of entry
The White House, its employees, and contractors shall be allowed the right of entry to the property at all reasonable times for purposes of inspection or to carry out any necessary repairs or maintenance.
Items left behind
The Client should check the property thoroughly for belongings before leaving at the end of the rental period. The White House will make a £10 handling charge, as well as seeking reimbursement for the cost of postage and packaging, if asked to return items left behind. Items left unclaimed will be disposed of after a period of three months.
Any problem or complaint that the Client may have during their rental of the property must be immediately reported to The White House who will endeavour to put matters right. Any complaints not reported to The White House at the time but only reported after the Client has departed the property will not be considered by the proprietor.
Any cancellation made by the Client for whatever reason shall be made in writing and sent to The White House via email. On receipt of notice of cancellation, The White House will seek to re-let the property for the period of the booking. The White House will endeavour to re-let the property for the full rental rate but reserves the right to offer a discount for late availability.
If The White House or its agents succeed in re-letting the property for the same rental rate the Client will be refunded all monies paid less an administrative charge of £20. If The White House or its agents succeed in re-letting the property for part of the period or at a reduced rate the Client will receive a refund equal to all monies paid less the difference in value of the new booking and an administrative charge of £20.
If cancellation is made more than eight weeks prior to the commencement of the rental and The White House or its agents are unable to re-let the property, the Client will forfeit their deposit. In this instance there would be no administration charge.
If cancellation is made less than eight weeks prior to the commencement of the rental and The White House or its agents are unable to re-let the property, the Client will forfeit their deposit and balance payments. In this instance there would be no administration charge.
The White House strongly advises that the Client takes out comprehensive travel insurance to cover them for any loss that may be incurred due to their cancellation.
Changes of date
The White House may consider a request to change the date of a booking after confirmation has been issued. Agreement will be given provided that the request is received more than eight weeks prior to the start of the rental.
Any change of date will require the Client to pay any additional amount due if the new date of the booking falls during a period when the rental rate is higher than the rental rate charged for the booking that is cancelled. Equally, if the new date falls during a period when the rental rate is lower than the rental rate charged for the original booking, The White House reserves the right to charge the amount of the original rental. Notwithstanding the above, the Client will be liable for an administration fee of £20 when changing the date of a booking.
Where the date of the booking is changed the new booking must fall within 12 months of the date of the original booking. The White House will only accept a second change of date in exceptional circumstances, entirely at its own discretion.
If, for whatever reason, the property becomes unavailable or unusable prior to the date of booking The White House will use its best endeavours to find a suitable alternative property. Failing that, The White House will reimburse the Client for any monies paid.
